As the 2022 General Election turns the corner from early voting toward election day let's take a look at when and how Utah is voting.
KSL yesterday, Utah's early voter turnout was "lower than expected" at 21%. By Friday night, that percentage had risen to around 28%. The last two years' focus on voting by mail, voters' desire to cast their ballots in person on election day, or a general decline in turnout could possibly be a reason for lower early voter turnout. Monday should be a busy day for Utah's county election clerks, staff and workers!
After the election, the data must be examined using the entire set of official data in order to provide a possible answer to the voter turnout numbers. What can be inferred by examining unofficial early voting turnout figures and estimates at this time? That would depend on the available data.
For now, registered voters have 3 more days to submit their ballot either by-mail/drop box or by voting in-person. Check out your county websites for the vote center hours/locations to vote in-person and location of ballot drop boxes.
Have you been watching the ballot processing numbers on some of Utah's county websites? I have made a county map of unofficial estimates of early voter turnout below. Use the links in the notes below to check out all the county clerks, staff, and election workers are doing! While this does not show how Utah likes to vote (in-person, by-mail, early, or election day), it does give an idea of the process. I am sure the clerks and election supervisors will be learning what worked and what didn't so they can work toward transparent elections.
How is Florida voting?
Check out this Unofficial Voter Turnout from Holmes County, Florida. You can see on the left it has the active registered voters totals.
COUNTY TABLE NOTES:
This data is the best voter turnout estimates based on the available data which that does not represent real-time numbers. Some counties gave turnout estimates based on pollbook numbers, while some counties voter turnout is based only on ballots received and does not include early voting. Some counties provided current active register voter totals and others are extracted from 2020 election summaries.
While I did my best to get the data quickly, data was from varying dates. (Use links to find current information on county websites.)
